Trot Pace Genetics
Saddle Brook Stables is excited to be partnering with Ann Steiger of Cornell University in a study on Trot/Pace genetics. In recent years the knowledge of horse genetics has soared especially in the fields of color and certain diseases. There is a test for so many things and every day they are discovering new and exciting things. However, no one has yet been able to fully grasp the factors or genes that contribute to the gait of a horse. We are excited to be working with Ann as she works toward her Doctorate while focusing on this area of study. Saddle Brook is currently working on developing a crossbreed that is both feathered and gaited. We are using the influence of Friesians, Gypsies, and Clydesdales for the feathers and the Tennessee Walking Horse for the gait. The struggle is maintaining the feathering while acquiring the gait. Most gaited horses that you know today do a variation of the pace. Therefore pacing is a necessity in the development of what we are calling the Alltennian. With our current crossbred foals we are an ideal partner for Ann and her study. Keep a check on our site for any updates. We would also love to hear you thoughts on the matter! We want to help Ann every way possible so if you have any experience with these crosses please let us know. We would especially love to hear about your horse if it is a cross between a Walker and any of the three breeds aforementioned.
